The Ascot Gold Cup is quite simply the highlight of the entire Meeting with the race taking place on Ladies Day which in turn will be the most popular day of the 2009 Royal Ascot Meeting. We are going to be looking in depth into the runners for the big race as well as all the latest odds for the race to help you make your selection for the Gold Cup.
| Horse | SP | Jockey | Trainer | |
| 1st | Yeats | 6/4F | J.Murtagh | A.O Brien |
| 2nd | Patkai | 9/2 | R.Moore | Sir M.Stoute |
| 3rd | Geordieland | 11/4 | S.Kelly | J.Osborne |
The Ascot Gold Cup is quite possibly the biggest race of the meeting and is the highlight of Ladies Day and Yeats will be looking for his 4th consecutive win in 2009. Yeats has been hugely impressive in winning on the last three years but he disappointed on his seasonal re-appearance when he came in 6th at Navan in April. It may have been a blip but doubts will remain about his age and whether he is past his best. Patkai and Geordieland faced off at Sandown at the end of May and both are in with a real shout in the Ascot Gold Cup. It was Geordieland who won the duel but Patkai was not disgraced and looks to be improving all the time which means both have genuine claims here.
